BC Dairy is actively involved in the Western Milk Pool and working through a transformation process. The successful candidate for this role will lead and participate in projects that span the Western Provinces as part of the Development & Growth Business Unit.   

As part of our hybrid workplace there is a requirement to attend in person meetings on a regular basis.  Applicants must be based within commuting distance of one of the Western Milk Provincial offices - Langley, Edmonton, Regina and Winnipeg. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Public Affairs is responsible for developing a strategic plan and approach to the organization's interactions with media, government officials, and other industry parties. The position works to establish and execute engagement strategies and maintain a positive image for the organization and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to effectively communicate key issues. The Director of Public Affairs is a senior leader in the organization and takes an active role in ensuring alignment to Vision, Mission and Values. The Director of Public Affairs will also participate in a leadership role in developing a broader approach through the Western Milk Pool with responsibilities in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and deep collaboration with partner organizations across Canada.  This is a full-time position for a period of approximately 12 months to cover a maternity leave.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Qualifications:
●      Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience
●      A minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in public affairs/communications or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
●      A minimum of five (5) years of media relations experience.
●      A minimum of five (5) years of people management experience.
●      An understanding of BC’s agriculture sector and food community will be an asset.
●      Extensive experience in communications or public affairs, writing, editing and developing crisis and issues management strategies in the agriculture sector (preferred.)
●      Significant communications experience that includes a blend of advocacy and media relations.
●      Capable of effectively managing multiple projects, prioritizing, and teaching others the same.
●      Proven success with managing people, fiscal prudence, effective communication to both board and staff levels and procurement strategies.
Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills, working collaboratively with producers, internal team members, and other stakeholders.
●      Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle as needed (mileage will be compensated).
●      Possesses highly developed analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
●      Demonstrated experience working with confidential information in a sensitive environment
●      Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with demonstrated competency in information and communication technology.
●      Demonstrated excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workloads demands.
●      Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
●      High level of initiative and self-direction.

Compensation:
The salary range for this type of position would typically be $100-$140k. The actual compensation offered may vary based on factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills, experience, education and certifications as well as location and business needs.
