BC Dairy is actively involved in the Western Milk Pool and working through a transformation process. This role will eventually take on similar leadership responsibilities within the Producer Services Business Unit.

The Role
The Emergency Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the resilience and continuity of dairy operations in British Columbia. This role requires a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, particularly within the Western Milk Pool framework. The incumbent will oversee emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, contributing to the safety and security of the dairy industry in Western Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
Required Education
●      Undergraduate degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business Continuity, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
 
Required Experience
●      A minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency management, preferably in the agricultural or natural resources sectors.
●      In-depth knowledge of emergency management principles, practices, and regulations, with a focus on hazard identification, risk assessment, and crisis response.
●      Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively coordinate and motivate cross-functional teams during high-stress situations.
●      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
●      Experience working collaboratively with government agencies, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
●      Proficiency in emergency management software, communication tools, and incident command systems would be an asset.
 
Required Skills
●      Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle as needed (mileage will be compensated).
●      Possesses highly developed analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and make informed decisions under pressure.
●      Adaptability and resilience to navigate rapidly changing circumstances and evolving priorities during emergencies.
●      Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with demonstrated competency in information and communication technology.
●      Demonstrated excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workloads demands.
●      Attention to detail and accuracy in documenting emergency plans, incident reports, and post-incident evaluations.
●      Commitment to continuous learning and professional development to stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in emergency management.
●      Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
●      High level of initiative and self-direction.
