The Role 

The Manager, Nutrition and Health Programs is a key member of the BC Dairy team contributing to strategic programs, partnerships and initiatives to support long-term market growth and innovation for BC dairy products.  The successful candidate will develop and execute programs that help to ensure British Columbians maintain a positive view of BC dairy farmers and feel confident in the quality and nutritional benefit of consuming dairy products.   A key component of the role is the development and execution of the delivery model for BC Dairy’s in-school food and nutrition education programming for teachers with the goal of increasing BC Dairy’s program reach within BC schools in a cost-effective manner. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES. 

Work with key stakeholders to plan, develop, and implement resources and nutrition education:  
  1. Lead the development and execution of the delivery model for BC Dairy’s in-school food and nutrition education programming for teachers, with the goal of increasing BC Dairy’s program reach within BC schools in a cost-effective manner. 
  2. Contribute to the development, evaluation and revision of program materials in collaboration with Dairy Farmers of Canada as required.  
  3. Liaise and collaborate with national and provincial counterparts on the development of shared resources and initiatives 
  4. Assist in the delivery of in-person or virtual workshops for teachers and health professionals

Develop and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders in the areas of nutrition & health education: 
  1. Build and maintain relationships with school district administrators, teachers, and opinion leaders in the local school, dairy processors, nutrition and health environments.  
  2. In collaboration with the Director of Community Engagement, build and nurture relationships between BC Dairy and their partners in the school, community, and health and wellness spheres (e.g. BC Ag in the Classroom, hospital foundations, etc.). 
  3. Attend and participate in professional organizations and continuing education opportunities on behalf of BC Dairy. 
  4. Support stakeholders in creating and navigating their account in BC Dairy’s online ordering portal. 
  5. Provide clear and timely communication to internal and external stakeholders. 

Develop internal and external communications strategies to deliver on market growth and strategic objectives. Grow business relationships in the dairy market while also increasing revenue through both new and existing revenue streams.  Stakeholders include, but are not limited to, producers, staff, processors, government and the public. Mediums can vary according to needs. 

Engage in continuous learning and development and act as a key resource and advisor in nutrition, nutrition education, and the dairy industry on behalf of BC Dairy: 
  1. Contribute to the success of BC Dairy’s Market Development team by advising on dairy and nutrition topics: reviewing materials, researching and preparing presentations, articles and briefing documents, and acting as a spokesperson for BC Dairy’s advertising, communications and community engagement needs, as required. 
  2. Contribute to the work of colleagues developing advocacy positions and strategies related to dietary policy. 
  3. Provide a resource service to the public on nutrition and dairy products, including answering queries, writing articles and presentations, and giving media interviews. 
  4. Review professional journals and other publications to keep current on matters pertaining to the dairy industry, nutrition and nutrition education. 
  5. Become familiar with all aspects of dairy production in B.C. and Canada including animal welfare, environment and sustainability, and community participation 

Manage the people and the work of the Nutrition Team:   
  1. Provide direction, coaching and mentorship to team member and consultants  
  2. Manage program budget and maintain accurate records of work, including processing of purchase orders and invoices. 
  3. Manage and maintain reporting metrics for operational and administrative budgets. 
  4. Create and maintain projects in Asana. 
  5. Manage and maintain contracts with external vendors. 
  6. Oversee maintenance and currency of the nutrition team’s database. 
  7. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned 
 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education 
  • Must be a Registered Dietitian with additional training in education and communications, marketing, business, and/or data analytics. 
  • Active membership in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia. 
  • Additional marketing or business related education or training would be an asset 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 
  • 3-5 years of experience managing projects, budgets and people applying tools like SMART goals and RACI  
  • Ability to develop strategic plans, track progress, deliver and report on impact. 
  • Sound understanding of nutrition and health recommendations across the lifespan, importantly, with early years and primary grade children.  
  • Knowledge and prior experience with the Division of Responsibility are vital to the success of this role.  
  • Experience in conducting research and analysis to identify market size, growth potential, customer segments, buyer personas, pain points, and value propositions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively, working within time constraints and meeting deadlines. 
  • Communication skills that foster an engaging experience with external groups are essential, including comfort with public speaking 
  • Proactive and flexible when needed priorities shift. 
  • Experience with relevant software:   Microsoft Office Suite is a must. Skill with Zoom meetings including facilitating breakout rooms and poll questions within the platform. Familiarity with CRM’s, database management, Mailchimp, and project management applications such as Asana, would be an asset.   
  • Experience in the dairy industry is an asset 

Compensation

$80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
